Copious Notes The journal of a Kentucky culture vulture

Interesting. In the current issue of Entertainment Weekly, Benjamin Svetkey wondered what would preoccupy him and many of his friends after the election, and in the same issue he penned the cover story on what I know will be my preoccupation:

The new James Bond movie. The Quantum of Solace.

The introduction of Daniel Craig as the James Bond of the 21st Century has raised anticpation for a new 007 flick from high to hotter than a Bond girl emerging from the surf.

So, to get psyched for the new movie, we’re going to run some polls here at Copious Notes, starting today with everyone’s favorite Bond debate: who is the best Bond? Did anyone do it better than Sean Connery? Did you like Roger Moore’s witty take, Pierce Brosnan’s cool, or Daniel Craig’s grit?

Wander to the right there and make your voice heard. Also, feel free to comment, and even suggest other polls. I’m definitely doing best villians and favorite Bond women, but I am open to suggestions for other categories.

  1. Will anyone vote for Dalton? Pierce Brosnan will always just be Remington Steele for me. I think you should also do a “Worst Bond Moment” poll. There are a lot of stinkers to choose from!

  2. Worst Bond moments. That’s a good one, Joe. Anyone got any suggestions? I’m thinking all of “A View to a Kill,” but maybe that’s too broad.

  3. I think Craig is da bomb. I really love him in the role - I think he’s perfect, and he can act, which is a new twist. Brosnan was just reading lines. I thought he would be perfect but I think he can be a lazy actor (although I thought The Matador was terrific, as was Thomas Crowne). He sometimes just phones it in. Craig is great - gives it his all every time.

  4. My wife and I actually loved Daniel Craig as Bond and what was essentially a reboot, so much so that we have a date night scheduled for the 14th so we can see it in the theatre…I confess a certain amount of geek quotient as well because the new JJ Abrams Star Trek trailer is supposed to be shown with the film, and I am alternately excited and terrified by the Trek reboot…the photo’s of Chris Pine as Kirk in the captain’s chair aren’t exactly inspiring confidence at this point!!

However, back to Bond, as a child of the 80’s I gotta go with Roger Moore as my favorite pre-Craig Bond. And Duran Duran’s Dance into the Fire as my favorite Bond song…you can’t go wrong with Christopher Walken and Grace Jones as the bad guys and Tanya Roberts (!) as your Bond girl…can you??

    Peace
    Rick

  5. I grew up with the Roger Moore “Bond”, so he’ll always be my favorite. Of course, my hubby says the only real Bond is Sean Connery!
