The Lyric Theatre has named Los Angeles theatrical entrepreneur Yetta Young as its executive director.
Young is a performer, producer and director who has formed her own production company presenting shows such as The Pocketbook Monologues, a production of The Vagina Monologues with an all African-American cast, and The Butterfly Trilogies, geared toward of empowerment of young girls.
In a news release, Lyric board chair Freda Meriwether said, “She embodies everything we were looking for – experience, energy, enthusiasm and a vision of what all the Lyric can mean to Lexington.”
Young, a graduate of Fisk University in Nashville, said, “My long term goal for the Lyric is to make it a cultural hub that provides not only the best cultural entertainment in theatre, but also in dance, comedy, music, film and more,” stated Young. “Back in its early years, the Lyric was once considered the place to be and be seen. Part of my goal is reigniting that passion.
“It’s the community that will sustain the Lyric. I plan on listening to the arts and education community closely to make sure the Lyric connects with their needs.”
