The Singletary Center for the Arts has announced a lineup of five marquee performances for the 2013-14 performing arts season, including three that pair the touring stars with University of Kentucky student ensembles.
Once again, the season includes a date with a classical music superstar for the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, this time in the form of piano phenomenon Lang Lang on Feb. 9. The students also have a return engagement with Pink Martini, which brings its unique blend of swing, pop, jazz, Latin and other music it makes its own.
The award-winning UK Wind Ensemble is also being paired with a superstar of its genre in a performance by trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, not to be confused with UK fiber artist Arturo Alonzo Sandoval.
Rounding out the schedule is a new tap show by dancer extraordinaire Savion Glover and a season opening performance by soul star Mayer Hawthorne.
The Singletary Center has not sold season tickets for several seasons now, preferring to go with single tickets, which go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday. Center director Michael Grice said he expects to add a few more artists this season as dates come together.
