‘Flashdance’ canceled at EKU Center for the Arts

This weekend’s performances of Flashdance — The Musical At the Eastern Kentucky University Center for the Arts have been canceled, “due to unforeseen circumstances,” according to the center’s Facebook page.

This would have been the Central Kentucky debut for the musical based on the 1983 movie that was considered groundbreaking for its use of music and music video-style editing.  The musical version premiered in London in 2008 and ran on London’s West End from September 2010 to January 2011. It has toured in the United States but not played Broadway. According to a May Variety review of the show in Costa Mesa, Calif., Flashdance was scheduled to move to Broadway this summer, but was “postponed.”

The EKU Facebook post said ticket holders can get refunds or exchange their tickets for other EKU Center shows. It did not indicate what the “unforseen circumstances” were.
