Few if any actors have done what Cristin Milioti is doing on How I Met Your Motherbecoming the title character nearly a decade into the enterprise.

The Mother of the title has been series-long speculation. When Laura Bell Bundy had a guest spot on the CBS sitcom, we had to ask her if there was any chance she would become The Mother.

But no, it turns out it is Milioti, who made an exceedingly brief appearance at the end of last season’s HIMYM finale, and makes her big debut tonight in the one-hour ninth-and-final season premiere at 8 p.m. on WKYT (Time-Warner Channel 9, broadcast Channel 27-1). And Milioti is a Jersey Girl through and through, but she does have a definite Kentucky connection.

Prior to How I Met Your Mother, Milioti’s biggest claim to fame was her Tony Award-nominated turn as the Girl — HIMYM producers have promised she will get a name this season — in Once — The Musical. And in Once, she played opposite Ashland native Steve Kazee, who won the 2012 Tony for best actor in a musical for his performance.

Kazee, BTW, is now in Los Angeles, and he reportedly will appear on CBS’ Elementary in October as a potential love interest for Lucy Liu’s Watson.

But tonight, all eyes will be on Milioti playing a role eight seasons in the making.
